New Inspiration
So, here is a new song that just came out while I was practicing for the Grateful Dead night in SF. Ship of Fools was the inspiration for this chord progression and a love interest was inspiration for the lyrics...prosperity abounds! Thanks to life for the wonderful inspiration...
A song is born - "Let Me Light Your Fire" A song is born from many things. Back in August, I was rehearsing for the Acoustic Grateful Dead night, as I had to learn 20 Grateful Dead tunes for the following Friday's show. I love the Grateful Dead, amazing songwriters, and their chord progressions are very interesting at times. After studying a little bit of Django Reinhardt earlier in the day coupled with the intense Grateful Dead training I've had to do, I was feeling pretty inspired in the guitar department. As I was learning one of the songs, "Ship of Fools", I noticed a chord progression that was persistently consistently making me play it over and over. An obsession with the way Bb goes to D7 to Eb to Edim7 then back to Bb had come over me. That along with the fact that I missed someone who was far away, is what inspired this song to be written. Go figure, a traveling musician has a song about love and not being near the one you want all the time. Wonder how that could happen? Either way, I have attached a video to this blog of the song preview in the form of sound waves and visuals. It has already gone through many stages, from the beginning of the obsession with the chord progression to humming melodies over top, all the way to forming an actual song, it was a many hour process. When the inspiration fairy comes a knockin' it's a good idea to answer the door, you never know what can be birthed in the course of a couple hours. Lyrics below: I know I haven't known you for very long, but...High and low Cupid's bow struck me strong The undertow of how this ocean flows has swept me straight out to sea I must agree that there seems to be sparks flyin' with you and me Let me light your fire Take you higher To a place where we can be Whatever we want to be Wrapped in your arms, I felt you this morning my dear But, when I awoke to the sunlight I found no one was here It's stop and go from the studio to the radio, U know I'm up and down, flyin' all around missin' u at every show Let me light your fire Take you higher To a place where we can be Whatever we want to be Bridge: When you found me I was lyin' online Oh the sight of how your simple love light shines Where is the love, when I need it most and how do you feel now When will the day come when I can say our love is here Loud and clear I will sing my dear to your hemishpere all night long How wonderful will the day be when you can play with me and sing this song Let me light your fire Take you higher To a place where we can be Whatever we want to be Let me light your fire Take you higher To a place where we can be Whatever we want to be The video link attached below was filmed at The Country House with my daughter, Hannah Karina Zoe Parker and the family dog, Woodstock. Enjoy this stripped down version and stay tuned for a studio version to hit streets soon! Pamela Parker's Song "Let Me Light Your Fire" on YouTube. San Francisco is such a treat!!!
So, I've lived in San Francisco for almost 2 years now and some great things are happening. I have just realized how small this city really is. In fact it's 7 x 7. That surely makes everything pretty convenient. I can make it across town in under 30 minutes every time. If I have to go south, it's a bit longer, but you get the idea. What an amazing place that fits so much culture into such a small area. I recently discovered Dolores Park, and if you haven't been there, you should go, it's quite an experience. I discovered Dolores Park after the big show at Great American Music Hall. There were a couple days I had to relax, wow, I couldn't believe it. So, being with amazing and trusted friends, they took me to Dolores Park for a nice relaxing sunny day at the park. What a San Francisco scene they have there!!! I've been going to Dolores Park every since and I just played a festival at Dolores Park on April 25th as a benefit for the Walk Against Rape. A San Franciso based group, San Francisco Women Against Rape, provides support and 24-hour hotlines for anyone who in need of help. A great organization, please check them out at www.sfwar.com
